Dancheong refers to the exquisite five-coloured designs on traditional Korean wooden buildings' walls, pillars, and eaves . These designs served not only a decorative purpose. but also a protective one, helping to preserve the wood from decay caused by wind, rain, and pests. The vibrant, bright colours were also believed to ward off evil spirits and underscore the authority of the building's occupants. I undertook a project to reinterpret these traditional Korean patterns in a modern context.
